Pfrimmer Deep Muscle Therapy

Pfrimmer Deep Muscle Therapy (PDMT) is a highly refined system of corrective treatment designed to aid in the restoration of damaged muscles and soft tissue in the entire body. Using a specific series of cross-tissue movements applied to muscles, a fully trained PDM Therapist concentrates on all layers of muscle that have become depleted of their normal blood and lymphatic flow. PDMT establishes a foundation for corrective massage upon which other troubleshooting techniques may be added. Since tight, adherent muscles are the cause of many ailments, PDMT is designed to cause corrective changes to damaged or adherent muscles and the adjacent soft tissues.

Where muscles have become "dry", PDMT brings lymphatic fluid toward the muscle cell. It softens hard fibrous muscle which restricts joint range of motion, and provides a dramatic form of passive exercise for those who have been injured or ill. It can speed recovery and promote maximum improvement where traditional treatments leave off. It has been proven valuable in prevention as well as correction of many serious conditions. To name a few: ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), Lupus, TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome), Strokes, Scoliosis, Multiple Sclerosis and Fibromyalgia. More information may be obtained through the Pfrimmer Institute web site: www.pfrimmerinstitute.com or the International Association of Pfrimmer Deep Muscle Therapists: www.pfrimmer.com .

Prenatal Massage Therapy

All of the therapists at North Austin Massage are experienced in Prenatal Massage!

During pregnancy, women endure a variety of discomforts including backaches, swollen ankles, heartburn, sciatica, fatigue, sinus congestion, headaches & varicose veins, just to name a few. Traditional medical care offers little relief for these ailments. Therapeutic massage & the nurturing touch of a skilled practitioner can provide relief from these symptoms throughout pregnancy. Our office is equipped with the Pro-Natal Maternity Mattress. The Pronate mattress turns every massage table into a pregnancy table, providing the pregnant client the ability to comfortably & safely lay face down with no weight being borne by breast or abdomen. "With so many women returning to more holistic health choices and birthing practices, the use of massage to treat the discomforts of pregnancy is a natural choice". (Elaine Stillerman LMT., Mother Massage 1992)

Myofascial Release Therapy

Myofascial Release Therapy (MFR) is a highly specialized stretching technique used to treat a variety of soft tissue problems. Knowing what fascia is will help you understand MFR and why it works. Fascia is the thin connective tissue that covers and holds everything in the body together (all the organs, every muscle, and every fiber within each muscle). When muscle fibers are injured, the fibers and the fascia which surround them become short and tight. This leads to over compensation of other muscle groups and causes pain and a variety of other symptoms. Myofascial Release treats these symptoms by releasing the uneven tightness in the injured fascia. Progress is measured by a decrease in the client's pain and improvement in overall posture.

Craniosacral Therapy

"Craniosacral Therapy (CST) was pioneered and developed by osteopathic physician John E. Upledger following extensive scientific studies from 1975 to 1983 at Michigan State University, where he served as a clinical researcher and Professor of Biomechanics.

"CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system - comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.

"Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system.

"By complementing the body's natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction..."

Sometimes emotions surface during a CST treatment. This is because tension in the body may be connected to strong feelings. As muscles and nerves relax, it is possible to remember or even re-experience the original emotion associated with your tension. Your therapist understands the SomatoEmotional Release (SER) process, and can help you deal with this response.

Swedish/Sports Massage

Swedish Massage:

The main purpose of Swedish Massage is to promote relaxation by increasing the flow of oxygen in the blood and releasing toxins from the muscles. Primarily a stress management tool, it stimulates the skin and nervous system and soothes the nerves themselves. It includes a combination of long flowing strokes, kneading, friction, tapping and rocking motions with light to medium pressure. The Swedish massage technique aids in the shortening of recovery time from muscle strain, stretches ligaments and tendons to keep them supple and pliable, and reduces both emotional and physical stress. Because research has proven that Swedish massage promotes general health and well-being, it is recommended as part of all stress management programs.

Sports Massage:

is a special form of massage developed to help athletes reach their peak performance, by assisting in their recovery afterward an event, preventing injuries, and by facilitating the healing processes after injuries. Utilizing techniques similar to Swedish and Therapeutic Massage, it adapts to the athlete's current needs and is usually most appropriate for young and fit individuals. Sports Massage applied after a performance drains the wastes away, restores the proper level of oxygen in the muscles, and promotes relaxation. It can be very vigorous and deep; therefore proper communication between the therapist and client is pertinent to assure levels of touch within the person's pain tolerance level.

Hot & Cold Stone Therapy

If you have never tried a stone massage, this is a must do! Using alternating temperatures creates a vascular fluctuation within the circulatory system and assists in the healing of injured or stressed tissue. Not to mention how WONDERFUL it feels. The hot stones help the connective tissue to soften much faster, so the deeper muscles can be reached sooner.

Hot and Cold Stone Massage:

* Relaxes while it rejuvenates
* Soothes and decongests the body
*Detoxifies physically and energetically
* Tonifies and enhances tissue repair
* Leaves you feeling grounded, balanced, and revitalized
*Is the ultimate for Body, Mind, & Soul

Our introductory offer for this treatment is $125 for an hour and a half massage. Any treatments after that will be $145.

Remember, this makes a great gift certificate for someone who is either reluctant or has never had a massage before.

On-Site Chair Massage

$95.00 hour (or $1.59 a minute) for chair massage at your location. (Minimum of one hour). We will provide sign-up forms in advance to maximize the number of people receiving massages. At your request, sessions may vary from 5 minutes to 30 minutes per person. An additional outcall fee may be added if your location is outside our "travel zone".

Critz Release Technique

The therapist utilizes soft tissue releases designed to restore balance to the musculoskeletal system naturally. Several modalities are used such as Positional Release (PRT), cross fiber friction, myofascial massage, classic Muscle Energy Technique (MET), and energy touch release. It is NOT a chiropractic manipulation.

MET engages the client to contract (with minimal pressure) muscle groups that are shortened, against therapist resistance. This process when repeated, resets the resting length of the shortened muscle, thus improving range of motion. In PRT, the therapist pulls or pushes tissues to ease pain while a cross-fiber motion for about 90 seconds softens them. The tissues are then reassessed.
The client is fully clothed as the protocol sequence releases and balances both lower and upper body restrictions that may be causing pain. The goal is to get the client to ZERO PAIN.
